Marta Pascual, designer at U-ak, from the Tetuán Crea collective, has been developing a program in several phases since 2021 to bring design and creative processes closer to the students of the Norte Joven project.

Norte Joven is an Association where young people carry out professional certificates that are developed in 18 months in various specialties: carpentry, electricity, commerce and hospitality, with the aim of training them for a labor market with specific needs in these four disciplines, as well as providing them with very complete personal and training tools for their own development. Most of the young people who belong to these programs are immigrants or young people from families at risk of social exclusion.

In our work, in the first phase we worked with the carpentry workshop, giving them training in two parts: one through training in creative processes, using tools, not only to develop products, but to solve problems thinking differently, from a divergent way of thinking. In addition to the training program, we gave them a briefing to develop a product in the workshop for a few months with the teacher: a mobile phone holder and door handles. At the end of the process, the students presented it to us as if we were their clients, giving them the prominence they deserved and empowering them as professionals in the sector.
